Friends,
My recent trip to the Middle East has really opened my eyes.
I've been very critical of Mr. Bush's whole "surge" concept, which all of you know is just more dangerous posturing from our criminally negligent administration.
Listening to the noise from the Right Wing Spin Machine, you'd think we in the Democratic Party have no ideas on solving Mr. Bush's mess. But now that the 100 hours goals have been achieved, it's time to turn our attention to a New Direction for Iraq.
After talking to key players in the Iraqi government, I will soon be introducing legislation that will give a new definition to our presence in Iraq. A lift that will tone our stretched forces, smoothing out the unsightly wrinkles in our Iraq deployment that have blemished the reputation of our fine military.
Not a surge, but a force augmentation that will restore youthful vigor to our tired, sagging forces.
This is something I really believe in, and I know from personal experience that it can have a dramatic effect in an amazingly short period of time.
It may not be possible to turn back the clock, but trust me, this is the next best thing.
I promise I'll have more details in the days and weeks to come.

My Meeting With Maliki
I had a great meeting with the P.M. of Iraq on Friday.
Seeing Mr. Maliki up close, you really get a sense of how difficult it is to maintain a firm and blemish-free appearance in the harsh desert winter.
One of Nouri's great tips was an amazing mixture of coffee grounds and sesame butter which we used on our lower eyelids to draw out toxins and create an amazing glow. I must say-- I was a little skeptical when he first mixed up the fresh salve and began working into my skin, but after we washed it off twenty minutes later, I was a believer.
Allah akbar, indeed!
